The St. Luke's Church is a neo-Gothic, three-aisled, cross-shaped columned basilica. Its mighty, west-facing, 60 meter high tower sits high on the Planitzer Schlossberg.
It is evidence of the mining-related boom. Due to rapid population growth, the neighboring castle church was no longer sufficient.
According to plans by the Zwickau architect Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel, the St. Luke's Church was built between 1871 and 1876 with 1,000 seats for 60,000 thalers and was used until 1968.
After 1990, it was increasingly falling into disrepair and was saved thanks to civic engagement and federal and state funding.
Today the church is a multifunctional event and cultural space where concerts, church services and other cultural events take place regularly.

The Lukas Church ⛪️ has been with me for years. The adjacent park invites you to linger. It's always worth it for a nice photo. We were even at the top 👆 of the tower, you have a fantastic view
