Lemvig was founded in the Middle Ages, but the only visible trace of this period is the town planning: a market square with streets emanating from the four corners of the square and the main street "Vestergade". Lemvig Church
has been on the market square since the Middle Ages, but the church has been rebuilt several times.
The marketplace has always been a center of commerce and a meeting place for citizens. On Sundays people met in church, but even more met on Saturdays for market day. People from all over the area came here to trade. The guests in Lemvig were well received and there were pubs for every taste and budget.
