In the middle of a large garden plot stands the "St. Georg" hospital, a large half-timbered building built in 1789, which today serves as social housing under the sponsorship of the church and the town.
On the same site you will also find the "St. Georg" hospital chapel, first mentioned in documents in 1303, a Romanesque half-timbered building that was built on the foundations of an older church. Alongside the town church, the "St. Georg Chapel" is considered the oldest building in the town. In 1967/68 the chapel was completely renovated and now serves as a church again.

The chapel was first mentioned in documents in 1303 and the hospital that went with it probably dates back to the same time.
According to old documents, the small chapel once had three altars.
It was also probably larger than it is today.
Excavations by the Melsungen Historical Society have revealed a single-aisled nave that probably served as a church for the hospital residents.
The chapel was renovated in 1967/68 so that church events can now take place again.
The colorful window shows the building's namesake, the knight St. George, the patron saint of travelers.

In the middle of a large garden property is the medieval hospital chapel of St. George, first mentioned in documents in 1303. The Romanesque building, which was erected on the foundations of an older church, is considered the oldest building in the city of Melsungen alongside the town church. The half-timbered tower and belfry date from the first half of the 19th century. The listed chapel was renovated in 1967/68 and from 2007 to 2009 and is now used as a church again.
