Around 150 meters long, the cannon railway bridge opened in 1879 with the Niederhohne–Treysa section. At Malsfeld, the military-strategic railway crossed the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Nordbahn (today's Bebra–Kassel railway). The line between Malsfeld and Spangenberg was in operation until 1986.
