This representative fountain was originally located on the market square in front of the portal of St. George's Minster. In 1866, the fountain was moved to its current location. The fountain, along with the Wörnitz Gate, is a popular photo motif. The fountain column with acanthus-leafed Corinthian capital dates from the Renaissance period (1557) and bears an upright lion. The lion seems to be about to roar loudly, holding a shield with the double-headed imperial eagle in its paws. The eagle, in turn, holds the Dinkelsbühl city coat of arms (three spelt ears) in its claws.
