From 1939, the 1837/38 built for the city school house was used as the town hall Arendsee. In 1942, HJ Marineschüler destroyed the gustaf nagels garden and temple complex.

In GDR times Arendsee had a significant tourism show. The lake and its surroundings were in moderation a substitute for the Baltic Sea beach. Numerous holiday homes and a campsite served as accommodation. Since the reunification, the number of day trippers has remained high, but the number of overnight stays has fallen sharply.
