Hesse's second-largest nature park is an ideal local recreation area with a wealth of cultural and natural landscapes. Here, you'll find the Pletgebirge (Pult Mountains) of the eastern Taunus, which stretch between the Wetterau and Idstein Depressions in the east, and between the Lahn River in the west and the Main River in the south. In the Hochtaunus, the Feldberg (Feldberg) is the highest elevation – a wooded mountain ridge, approximately 40 kilometers long and 10 kilometers deep. Coniferous forest dominates here, while in the Hintertaunus, you'll find mainly deciduous forest. The extensive orchards are typical of the Taunus and its undulating to mountainous terrain. If you enjoy canoeing, the Lahn River is particularly interesting. The Limes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, runs through the nature park from west to east. Particularly worth seeing are the reconstructed Saalburg Fortress and the Celtic ring walls. Around the nature park, you'll find numerous special natural and healing springs. In the Taunus Nature Park, you can enjoy many nature-based recreational activities: hiking, canoeing, cycling, and mountain biking are all supported by appropriate facilities. There are barbecue areas and a youth campsite. In winter, cross-country ski trails are groomed throughout the nature park.

The Taunus Nature Park (known as the Hochtaunus Nature Park until December 2012) is a nature park with an area of 134,775 hectares (1,347.75 km²) in the Taunus low mountain range. It is one of two Hessian nature parks in the Taunus and the second largest nature park in Hesse. The Taunus Nature Park is located in the Hochtaunuskreis, Lahn-Dill-Kreis, Limburg-Weilburg district, Main-Taunus-Kreis, Wetteraukreis and Gießen district. To the extent that its boundaries do not coincide with the external boundaries of its member states, it is bounded to the west by the A3 motorway, to the north roughly by the Lahn valley (but extends beyond the Lahn between Runkel and Weilburg into the Westerwald)[2] and to the east by the A5 motorway. In the south, it ends where the Main-Taunus foreland begins between Frankfurt am Main and Wiesbaden. The park borders the Rhine-Taunus Nature Park to the west. The nature park essentially encompasses the eastern half of the main natural area of the High Taunus, known as the Hochtaunus. The Taunus main ridge runs through this area, with the Grosser Feldberg (881.5 m) as the highest mountain in the Taunus. The park also includes the Eastern Hintertaunus, located north of this ridge and much larger in area. In addition, the Vordertaunus, a narrow strip of the Vordertaunus, extends south of the ridge and slopes down to the Rhine-Main lowlands. The park's original name, Hochtaunus Nature Park, was therefore not entirely accurate.
