The blue-green mosaic dragonfly is distinguished by its vibrant blue-green color and is found in still or slow-flowing waters. From summer to early autumn, it skillfully hunts mosquitoes and other insects in flight.
Like many other aquatic beetles, the water strider lacks gills. Instead, it takes in air at the water's surface and stores it as a silvery, shimmering bladder under its waterproof wing covers (elytra) and on its abdomen.
