Caldbeck was the home of the famous 19th century huntsman John Peel, who was tributed musically in the song "Do ye ken John Peel?". He now rests in the small Caldbeck churchyard beneath an elaborate headstone. Another famous resident of the village is Sir Christopher Bonnington, mountaineer and conqueror of Everest.
