Constructed as a gallery-style windmill, it was originally one of three windmills in Eutin and is now the only one preserved, making it a special landmark.

In the 1990s, it underwent extensive restoration, including the replacement of the wings.
Until a few years ago, the mill housed the "Alte Mühle" pub-restaurant, which closed after the owners retired.
