In June 2006, during the renovation works of the Plaza de España, based on a project by the architects Herzog & de Meuron, remains of the perimeter wall of the said structure appeared. Given the historical importance of the discovery, it was decided to protect and enhance this heritage resource, incorporating an underground gallery into the new architectural layout to make it accessible.
