House where Voltaire lived in the period 1753 - 1754
    Historical interpretation:
In October 1753, Voltaire arrived in Colmar to work on his Annales de l'Empire together with the French advisors of the Conseil Souverain and their rich libraries. He also wanted to follow the typographical adaptations of his work on the presses of JF Schoepflin. He found shelter with Madame Gall, the wife of the mayor, in a 15th-century noble house, rebuilt in 1609.

Voltaire's stay, which lasted only thirteen months, was particularly eventful because of his disputes with the very influential Jesuit brothers in the city and who opposed the works of the philosopher of the Enlightenment. Despite much misplaced criticism of Colmar, which he described as "a half-French, half-German and completely Iroquois city", it appears that he nevertheless enjoyed his stay in Colmar.

The Wildungshof House is a historic monument in Colmar, in the French department of Haut-Rhin.

In the 14th century, this building belonged to the von Wittenheim family. In 1448, the farm returned to Beat Henslin.

The wooden gallery from 1598 was likely built by Samuel, son of Beat Henslin.

Voltaire stayed in this residence for thirteen months (1753 and 1754) to complete his Imperial Annals after his dismissal from the court of Frederick II.

The Court Gallery has been a listed historic monument since January 12, 1989.

In October 1753, Voltaire arrived in Colmar to work on his "Annales de l'Empire" (Annals of the Empire) with the help of French advisers to the Sovereign Council and their rich libraries. He also wanted to follow the typographical revisions of his work in the bookshop of J.F. Schoepflin. He found lodgings for Madame Gall, the mayor's wife, in a noble house dating from the 15th century and rebuilt in 1609.

Voltaire's three-month stay in Colmar was particularly eventful because of his problems with the Jesuit brothers, who were very influential in the city and opposed the works of the Enlightenment philosopher. But despite his numerous critics of Colmar, which he called "a city half French, half German", some of his comments suggest that he enjoyed his stay there.
