The Les Invalides in Paris is usually not one of the Paris attractions that Paris visitors see on a first visit to Paris. But if you know the city a little better, have spent a lot of time and seen the most famous sights of Paris or are a fan of Napoleon, a visit to the Invalides in Paris is highly recommended!

Built between 1671 and 1676 by Liberal Bruant, and later by Jules Hardouin-Mansart and Robert de Cotte, it is now one of the most prestigious monuments in Paris. Today, in addition to being affected by the Ministry of Defense, it is also occupied by numerous agencies that depend on other ministries. But the Hôtel National des Invalides continues to be a hospital-hospice, its original function, for the severely disabled, wounded or mutilated combatants.

At the end of the 17th century, Louis XIV had a home built outside of Paris for his homeless war invalids. What sounds like a real blessing actually had a completely different background. The troublesome and homeless veterans were a real problem for Louis XIV. The injured soldiers not only made a chilling impression in the city, but also caused a great deal of commotion. Louis XIV then decided to take this problem out of Paris and commissioned the construction of a home for the war invalids outside the Paris city walls. In the meantime, Paris has continued to expand, so that the Home for the War Invalids and the Paris Invalides are now in the middle of Paris.
