It was initially built in stone in 1378. It was located near the Petit-Pont and in the extension of the Saint-Denis street. The provost of the time, Hugues Aubriot was in charge of the work financed by the King. The works lasted about eight years (1378-1387). Once completed, the Parisians initially baptized it with the names of the New Bridge because it was the most recently built (not to be confused with the current New Bridge) and that of the Saint-Michel Bridge, due to its location.

The bridge connects the Île de la Cité with the right bank and is a popular meeting point for tourists and locals.
The origins of the Pont Saint-Michel date back to the 16th century, but the current bridge was built in the 19th century and has been renovated several times since then. Today, the Pont Saint-Michel is a popular spot for tourists to take photos, feed ducks and enjoy the views of the Seine.
Whether you're cycling or walking, the Pont Saint-Michel is a great way to see some of Paris' most iconic landmarks. You can drive over the bridge and admire Notre-Dame and the Musée d'Orsay in the background while enjoying the view of the Seine.
