The ruins of Burg Breitenstein on a 220 meter high steep slope on the northern side of the Speyerbachtal in the Palatinate Forest four kilometers east of Elmstein in the district of Bad Dürkheim. The castle was probably built in 1246 during the disturbances during the deposition of Emperor Frederick II by Pope Innocent IV. Only a few walls have been preserved but it is worth the path to ruin.
