During the Second World War, an airfield was built on the Vlagheide by the Allies as part of Operation Market Garden. It was opened in February 1945 and was named B.85 Schijndel.
After the liberation, this airport became redundant. The site remained in military use due to the presence of three military storage sites (MOB complexes). These date from the Cold War era. They were built in 1971. After the termination of this, they were disposed of by the Ministry of Defence, demolished and handed over to the municipality of Veghel in 2001.
In addition, a large rubbish dump was built on the site, which was closed in 2004. As a result, a tens of meters high hill has been created on the site with an area of 46 hectares. Its height is 36.9 meters above
