Brixen town hall
Over the centuries, today's seat of the municipal council was a simple town house where flour and other victuals were sold. Contrary to what might be expected, the building does not date from the late Middle Ages, but was simply modeled on it. At the end of the 19th century, when it became fashionable throughout Europe to return building elements to their medieval form, the government councilor Ferdinand von Kaltenegger also had the building he had just acquired increased by one floor and decorated with medieval elements (watchtower, crenellated roof, wall paneling and Beam ceilings inside etc.) provided. The former goods store had grown into the representative “Schloss Taurenstein”.
When Kaltenegger died in 1911, the community acquired the house. The subsequent relocation of the town hall from the northern side of the arcades to the southern side facing the cathedral square was also intended in a certain sense to signal a changed attitude towards the church: the parish fathers had previously been more active in the northern, secular area of the city, but from now on they expanded increased their influence on the southern area, which was hitherto dominated by the church.

Beautiful city in South Tyrol, very chic, in my opinion, together with Merano the most beautiful of these lands. City with a typically Tyrolean character and style, episcopal seat, the religious imprint is also noted for the presence of the nearby abbey of Novacella. Quiet and elegant, it offers the possibility of relaxation, especially thanks to the beautiful walks along the river. It is located at the confluence of the Isarco and Rienza rivers and therefore a junction between the Isarco valley and the Pusteria valley. From here you can decide whether to travel northwards through the Isarco valley and reach Sterzing / Vipiteno, towards the Pusteria valley towards the east and reach Bruneck / Brunico and Toblach / Dobbiaco or towards the south and reach Bozen / Bolzano. Still heading south near Klausen / Chiusa or Waidbruck / Ponte Gardena, you can decide to go through Val Gardena.
