The Mühlensteg footbridge was built in 1989 as a covered wooden bridge for pedestrians and cyclists, with seating in the middle, as part of the "Alte Mühle Cultural Center" project. The covered wooden structure is reminiscent of the Alps.

The original wooden bridge was one of the first over the Nidda and part of an important trade route to northern Germany. It was later renovated in stone and received its current late classicist appearance around 1894 - but now only leads over an oxbow river of the Nidda.
