Wetterau Bird Sanctuary

From the bridge in Gronau you have a beautiful view of the renatured Nidda and the mouth of the Nidder. This takes you to a part of the 10,690 hectare “Wetterau” bird sanctuary. This landscape, typical of the Wetterau, alternates between meadows, agricultural fields, orchards and bushes. Greylag goose, heron, stork, buzzard and falcon can often be found here.
Very nearby is the "Domain of the Gronauer Hof": The Gerty Strom Foundation keeps a herd of Hereford cattle here, which is used as a grazing project for landscape protection to keep the landscape open. These frugal animals can live outdoors all year round.
