Collegiate Church of St. Pelagius, Bischofszell
Halfway between the episcopal city of Konstanz and the Benedictine Abbey of St. Gallen, one of the bishops Salomon founded the Pelagius Foundation as a spiritual center in the second half of the 10th century. This is how the later town of Bischofszell, which developed from it, got its name (“the bishop's cell”).

The patron saint of the church, St. Pelagius from Hungary (… 284), was beheaded at the age of 25 because he refused to renounce the Christian faith. We commemorate his day every year on the first Sunday in September.
The choir, the three-aisled basilica and the All Saints Chapel date from the 14th century.
The tower and the newly built nave date from the 15th century.
The sacristy was added to the eastern front of the choir between 1708 and 1709.
The choir was given a baroque makeover around 1770. Inside there are fragments of late Gothic paintings. The early Baroque high altar was built between 1639 and 1640.
In 1826 the church was given an onion dome and in 1864 it was renovated in the neo-Gothic style. From 1535 to 1968 the Pelagius Church served as a place of worship for both Christian denominations.
From 1967 to 1971 a complete renovation was carried out, giving the church its current appearance.
