    St. Peter's Church...

In 1863, Willem Geukens became pastor of Leut, who considered it his life's work to build an even larger church. Herman Jaminé served as architect. The church was built on land opposite the old church, coming from the lords of the castle, the Vilain XIIII family, who was also the largest lender.

The new church was built from 1875-1876 in Neo-Romanesque style. It is a brick cross basilica, finished with elements of marlstone. The projecting west tower with an octagonal spire between four gables is flanked by a semicircular stair tower. On the north side there is a chapel for the Vilain XIIII family, with a stained glass window with a coat of arms and a motto of the family: vilain sans reproche.

The church furniture mainly dates from the time of the construction of the church: the second half of the 19th century. It is designed in neo-Romanesque style. The pulpit, however, is from 1700 and designed in Baroque style. The holy water

The neo-Romanesque basilica of Leut was built in 1875-1876. In the summer of 2022, it was decided to reinforce the church spire because the supporting beams appeared to have collapsed and the spire of the church, designed by architect H. Jaminé, threatened to give up the ghost. The former church stood where the cemetery is now. The first references to a church in Leut date from around 1080. This church stood on the site where the old cemetery is now. The current neo-Romanesque church was built in 1875-1876. The dedication of Pastor Geukens, who considered the construction of the church his life's work, the financial support and influence of Count Vilain XIIII and Mr. Herman Jaminé as architect, made the St. Peter's Church of Leut a gem in this small village. The brick cruciform church is finished with marlstone elements. The projecting west tower with octagonal spire between four gables is flanked by a semi-circular staircase tower. The church is classified as a monument.
