Hiking

The Zollvereinsteig is a circular hiking trail in the north of Essen. The trail, which opened in April 2022, is 26.4 kilometers long and circles the UNESCO World Heritage site of the coking plant and the Zollverein colliery. With a total ascent of 321 meters in altitude, the trail leads past green belts, parks and allotments, through brownfield sites and onto dumps, from which far-reaching views over the green north of Essen are possible. After the Baldeneysteig and the Kettwiger Panoramasteig, the Zollvereinsteig is the third hiking trail in the Green Capital of Europe in 2017
