The highest inhabited area in Europe can be found in the Georgian province of Svaneti, and in particular the village of Ushguli, which consists of four villages: Chvibiani, Murkmeli, Jibiani and Chajashi. The village is located at an altitude of 2100 meters above sea level in the gorge of the Enguri. No more than 300 people live here permanently.
