"Wonnecken Castle" is the medieval name of Windecken Castle."Before 1262 Reinhard I von Hanau had the castle built as a rectangular ring in a spur position. Until 1436 it was the permanent residence of the Hanau rulers. The two founders of the Hanau-Münzenberg line, Philipp the Elder, *1417, and Hanau-Lichtenberg , Philipp the Younger, *1449, were born here.
During the Thirty Years' War the castle was destroyed for the first time in 1635 by imperial troops and then completely in 1646 by Swedish troops. The buildings from the time of reconstruction as the Hanau court of justice in 1736 are still preserved today. Until 1970 these were used as the seat of the district court of Windecken."
Quote from an information board on the building. The buildings are privately owned and not accessible.
