Bruchköbel was first mentioned in a document in 1128 and was granted town rights by Emperor Charles IV in 1368. The Thirty Years' War brought total destruction; only the fortified tower, the former Protestant Lutheran church, and a house on Schweizergasse remained untouched. After World War II, Bruchköbel developed from a village into a town. The population grew rapidly due to the reception of many displaced persons. The renovation of the old town began in 1972. Bruchköbel's town center boasts some very attractive half-timbered buildings.
