In the 14th century, a chapel "To Our Lady" was mentioned on the spot where the Loretto Chapel is today, but it no longer existed by 1605. In 1739 the Erbendorf pastor Johann Michael Pfreumbter acquired the property and built a house with a chapel between 1745 and 1750. During the two city fires in 1771 and 1796, the chapel and the entire city were destroyed and had to be rebuilt.

Today's benefit building and the house chapel date from 1797. The chapel and the adjoining house have existed in their present form since 1857, when the chapel was supplemented with the chancel and the entrance facade.
