The Meyersieksche mill is really something special: it is documented - the second oldest watermill in Lower Saxony! It was already mentioned in 1245 as "Vogteimühle". This did not mean the later place Vogtei; rather, "Bailiwick" means a district (for which a bailiff was responsible). The mill was therefore responsible for the "District" Steyerberg mill. In 1679 the building was extensively renovated for the first time; Around 1900, the mill got its present form.
In the course of this reconstruction measures, the water wheels were replaced by two turbines in 1897, which - in addition to the mill operation - were used to generate electricity. The current turbines have an installed capacity of 40 or 60 kilowatts and generate around 500,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year - the amount of energy required to supply 125 four-person households with electricity every year.
