Half-timbered church of the Schinna monastery
The erection of the half-timbered church has been specified by a dendrochronological investigation to 1539/40. It was thus created 2 years before the Reformation was enforced in 1542 at the time of the existing monastery. (...) According to current knowledge, the building is the only surviving building of this type in Europe.
    (...)
With the construction of the neo-Gothic parish church (1885/86), the half-timbered church was profaned and used as the domain's cattle shed until 1984. (...)

The half-timbered church is the most important building in the Schinna Monastery complex in terms of architectural history. In view of the historical situation of the monastery at that time, the building can clearly be interpreted as an emergency church.
This makes the half-timbered church in Schinna the only known construction of this type of building in Europe that has survived to our time.

The half-timbered church from 1539/40 on the extensive grounds of the former Schinna monastery is a unique gem of sacred architecture. When I stood in front of it on this wonderfully sunny Saturday and walked around it, I was very lucky: the door was open and I could take a look inside the church. 🍀 A magical moment!🌟🍀‼️
