Incredible biodiversity from all over the world of trees and plants. The exotic forest was founded in 1872 by Baron Christian Friedrich Gustav von Berckheim. The plots he planted are among the oldest occurrences of some exotic tree species in Germany. Berckheim bought the areas of Sommerhalde, Wichtersgasse, Gassenweg, Judenbuckel and Weihertal, resulting in an area of around 36 hectares. Between 1872 and 1883 he planted a total of 12,494 trees.
