In 1844, the Saxon-Silesian Railway Company received permission to operate a railway line from Dresden to Görlitz. In 1845, the first railway ran on the Dresden-Radeberg section.
The current station building was purchased and renovated by the city in 2002. Several bus lines to nearby towns start from the station and there is also a bicycle rental station here.
