Chão dos Terreiros Summit

Completely overgrown, the path is almost impossible to find. We had to turn back.

The view from Chao dos Terreiros is sensational in good weather. The central location offers a panoramic view over the plateau Paul da Serra, down to the valley of the Ribeira Brava up to the Encumeada Pass and to the highest peaks of Madeira.

You will hardly find a better vantage point of the central high peaks of the island. Above all, the Pico Grande with its enormous substructure stands out, but the wild chain of the even higher Pico Ruivo and Pico das Torres also characterize the view. The summit of the Chaõ dos Terreiros is marked by a square measuring column on a small pedestal. The hike from Fontes here has a completely different character than so many other tours - no levadas and no fairytale forest, but cultural landscape and eucalyptus at over 1000m above sea level.
