The St. Elisabeth Church was built as a three-aisled basilica in the early Romanesque style in the years 1894/95 to plans by the architect Christoph Hehl from Berlin and the first pastor of the community, Heinrich Riemenkaste. The then Bishop of Hildesheim Daniel Wilhelm Sommerwerck consecrated the church in honor of St. Elisabeth and the Holy. Vincent de Paul as co-patron.

The result is a church, the conception of the believers a wide nave with an unobstructed view of the altar and pulpit / Ambo offers. A flat wooden ceiling adorned by rich ornaments extends over the nave. In 1898-1905, the painting of the church by the artist Oskar Wichtendahl took place in accordance with a "draft program" of the former cathedral chapter of Hildesheim and later Cardinal von Wroclaw, Adolf Bertram , In the murals of the center nave, the painter depicts Elisabeth's outer life according to historical tradition and legend, with the corresponding subtitles. Thus "the small pillar basilica in the brilliance of her paintings has not only become a sacred place of worship, but has become a distinguished sight of the city of Hanover". (Hannoversche Tageblatt of 26.10.1904).

Spared by the wars, the church was repeatedly renovated and restored in the post-war period, as in 1958 (choir room), 1961/62 (redesign of the sanctuary). The last major restoration, both of the outer building and the paintings in the interior, took place in 1992/94. Thus, the "Anniversary Lady" in festive clothing in 1995 celebrated its 100th anniversary.

On 31.08.2010 ended the history of the independent parish of St. Elisabeth. As of 01.09.2010, St. Elisabeth is the branch church of the newly merged parish of St. Heinrich.

The Catholic parish church of St. Elisabeth is the third Catholic church in Hanover, built in 1894/95 by Christoph Hehl in the form of a three-aisled basilica.
From 1897 to 1904, Oskar Wichtendahl painted scenes from the life of St. Elizabeth.
