The island can be reached via a pedestrian bridge that is around 80 meters long. Access is free but only allowed during the day. Towards the end of the day, the bridge is blocked by a gate. For the self-sufficient energy supply on the island only solar energy and biomass are used. The futuristic service center is used to generate passive solar energy. It was built in place of a kiosk building as a project of the EXPO 2000 and has been awarded an architecture prize. In the south of the island, directly on the Inselweg, there is a children's playground.

The service center includes a kiosk, café and a bistro beer garden and a freely accessible viewing platform, which offers views of the lake from a height of approximately 15 meters. Here is a restaurant (on the culinary level of a snack bar) operated. Sanitary facilities on the island are toilets and beach showers. In the northeast of the island is a 100 meters wide sandy beach with about 5000 m² area. The shore here forms a small bay. The rest of the island is mostly made up of lawns and scrub, but clumps of trees and small groves that span the entire island give the island a park-like appearance. Although the trees are at most 40 years old, they sometimes have an impressive height. There are larger reeds on the west bank of the island.
