This "Döbrichshöhle" is one of the little mysteries of Coburg. According to legend, sometimes interpreted as the entrance/exit to the buried secret passage to Veste Coburg. A cave indeed, not a basement, but probably man-made.
A "sandmaker cave". Temporarily inhabited by a hermit Döbrich. Freely accessible until the 1970s, according to a newspaper report about 70 meters deep (I was in it to the back as a child, that was an estimated 20 meters). 2 entrances, one walled up since around 1980, one with a steel gate.
