The Ketschentor is one of three preserved city gates in the Upper Franconian city of Coburg. The gate tower marked the southern boundary of the city center and was part of the outer city wall.

The Ketschengasse and the Ketschentor connect the market with Ketschendorf. Since the Middle Ages, an important trade route between Erfurt and Nuremberg has led through the gate.

The outer Ketschentor, built in the first third of the 14th century, was built when the Ketschenvorstadt suburb was fortified. From 1324, a front gate with two towers connected by a wooden corridor and a moat bridge secured the main gate.

This was built in 1303. At that time, Coburg was under the rule of Henneberg, as the coat of arms above the driveway makes clear. At this gate, the upper part of the wooden structure, which was provided with a turret and bay window, was replaced by a Welsche dome in 1713. For every inner city gate there was also an outer one. The Ketschentor is the only remaining outer city gate. Whoever goes through is not far from the pedestrian zone.
