Best Hikes to Menzengraben Potash Mine

Tips

  • For Stadtlengsfeld and the surrounding area potash mining was very important. The district Menzengraben was created as a result of a potash mine. In the potash plant of the Stadtlengsfelder district Menzengraben was from 1916 to 1966 potash promoted. Many families were able to secure a new income.

  • The area around the Menzengraben shaft was designed with a lot of effort and love by private initiative back in GDR times after the mine was closed. The ponds were already a popular local recreational destination back then and have been visited again and again since the restaurant was built.
The former shaft buildings have now also been privatized and renovated.
At the end of our Easter hike 2024, we were warmly welcomed and well looked after in the Menzengraben restaurant. Thank you!
