The impressive basalt columns on Dietrichsberg are the result of volcanic activity. Basalt is still mined here between the Dietrichsberg and the Geiskop, one of the extinct volcanoes.
Legend has it that a black-clad carter with a headless black horse is up to mischief in front of his ghostly vehicle between Dietrichsberg and Bremer Berg. He is a cursed robber who is said to have once killed a wagon driver and since then has been condemned to ride the creepy carriage through the night.
