A niche has been built above this gate containing a statue of Mary with a lantern to the left of the statue. The statue was once placed here by the banking house F. van Lanschot, which in 1999 still conducts its banking business in this building, and later a lantern was added.

The Ruische Poort is named after Johan Ruysch, who settled in the city after the fall of Den Bosch in 1629 and became a burgher. He bought the former refuge home of the Mariënhage monastery. The 'Ruysche Poort' became the access road. The gate road still leads directly to the front door of this house.
