The long stones on the Stoppelsberg have a very long history. They are made of sandstone and are approximately 245 million years old. They probably originated from river deposits. About 25 million years ago, the long stones are said to have been created by one of the active Rhön volcanoes breaking the sandstone into the square pieces as we can see them today. The long stones are about 850 meters southwest of the top of the stubble mountain.
The stones have always been viewed with enthusiasm. A drawing on the stones is assigned to the Neolithic period. The royal coat of arms on one of the stones is much easier to assign. It belonged to Landgrave Friedrich the 1st von Hessen-Kassel.Source: Rhönführer.de
