Alp Lida / Mälsner Allmein, Balzers 880 m
Alp south of the Mälsner Allmein on the Fläscherberg. Politically, Lida belongs to the municipality of Fläsch (GR), but is owned by the Balzers citizens' cooperative (until 2006: Balzers municipality). Area (including Matheid) 31 ha, 875–1104 (Lidaspitz) m above sea level Name probably from Flida (steep land, mostly used as hay hill or pasture land, on which there are scrub and trees).
Disputes between Balzers and Fläsch over usage rights and boundaries on the Fläscherberg are documented from the 14th to the 19th century. A settlement mentioned by Peter Kaiser in the "History of the Principality of Liechtenstein" (1847) that existed on Lida until the time of the Reformation and belonged to Balzers could not be proven. Especially until the conclusion of the customs treaty with Switzerland in 1923, but also as a result of the expansion of the Sargans Fortress from the 1930s and during the Second World War, there were repeated problems with Switzerland regarding the management of Lida. Until 1923, smuggling routes also led via Lida. In 1914/15 the first hut (later burned down) and in 1957 a stable were built on Lida. In 1932, the Lida, used as a Galtalp, was infested with 92 cattle, 14 calves and one cow. According to the decision of the Balzner citizens' assembly (1952), Lida and the two commons were managed together from 1959 and cows were summered there. The milk was processed in the village dairies. Since 1997 the stocking of Lida (including commons) has been limited to 75 livestock units. Since 2005 only cattle have been raised on Lida.
