Mouse ears in the Reformed Church, bottle
Every year from spring to autumn, around 1,000 female mouse-eared bats gather in the bulbous tower of Fläsch Church to carry and raise their young. Both greater mouse-eared bats and the extremely rare lesser mouse-eared bats live in the colony. These two species look very similar to each other.
Since 1995, the population development of the Fläsch mouse-eared bat has been documented and monitored as part of a protection and monitoring program. The main players in monitoring the mouse-eared bat colony are the volunteer roost managers Ladina Thomasin-Kühne and Jörg Kühne. They are also the competent local contacts for the population and authorities when it comes to bats.
In 2018, the municipality of Fläsch was awarded the "Elisabeth and Oscar Beugger Prize" by the nature conservation organization Pro Natura for its "low-emission public lighting" project. The new lighting concept sets an important example for the protection of endangered animal species from too much artificial light and of course also for the protection of the Fläsch mouse-eared bats.

Different sources give construction dates within the pre-Reformation period between 1465 and 1479. In 1524, under the leadership of Pastor Ulrich Bolt, Fläsch was the first parish in Graubünden to accept the Reformation, with the parish celebrating communion in both forms, i.e. with a lay chalice. This act led to heated arguments with Maienfeld, who carried out a punitive action to arrest Bolt as a heretic. The latter was hidden in the cellar by the then community leader.
