The tower, which dominates the cityscape, houses the current carillon museum (carillon tower).

When the diocese of Hasselt was founded in 1967, this church, which has been protected as a monument since 1933, became the bishop's church or cathedral. It is also the only Belgian cathedral that never bore the title of collegiate or basilica, but was directly promoted from ordinary deanery parish church to cathedral.

A thorough restoration began in 1994 and was completed at the end of 2000. The restoration of the protected Binvigat-Niehof organ was completed two years later. The organ is unique because it still contains a large amount of original pipework from an earlier organ from 1793, which is also the oldest pipework in Belgium. Furthermore, the interior contains several important works of art such as the Renaissance choir stalls from 1549, the painting Calvary by Lampsonius, the Stations of the Cross and several murals by the Hasselt artist Godfried Guffens. The oldest known monstrance in the world is also owned by the cathedral, but it is exhibited in Het Stadsmus.

The St. Quintinus Cathedral, dedicated to Quintinus, is located in the center of Hasselt. The St. Quintinus Church became a cathedral upon the establishment of the diocese of Hasselt in 1967. Until then, the inhabitants of the province of Limburg were members of the diocese of Liège. It is also the parish church of the Sint-Quintinus parish. The cathedral choir listens to the pontifical celebrations.
