The heavy battery "Deutschland" stood at this location in 1916. All information can be read on site on the pancarte.

Historical interpretation: Located between Bredene, Vosseslag and Klemskerke you can find the location where Batterie Deutschland was located during the First World War. Today, all that remains is a pool filled with water where one of the four cannons stood, while on the other side of the street some ruins and shelters can still be seen. It is not permitted to enter this zone, the domain is completely fenced and today it is used as the d'Heye nature reserve.

The heaviest of all coastal batteries of the Marine Corps Flandern was located here and had four 38cm guns. This battery was part of the Coastal Defense West. These guns were electrically operated and had a range of over 30 kilometers. After the war, the location was opened to mainly British "war tourists" who came to visit the battlefields. From 1928 onwards, interest waned and in 1939 the 'Long Maxes' were publicly sold as scrap metal. With this, these last impressive witnesses of the First World War disappeared. In the 1950s, parts of the remaining complexes, bunkers and shelters were further demolished.
