Fort Napoleon, a pentagonal military fortress by the sea in Ostend, cannot be overlooked from afar. The complex is now a modern museum, the exhibition tells the story of the fort in a lively manner. If you have the time and feel like it, definitely recommended. The brasserie in the museum has a lovely terrace overlooking the sea and is ideal for a short break.
    More information, opening times etc.

Remains of a fortress from the 18th century. Because Napoleon feared an attack from the English, he had this imposing fortress built in the dunes. Now the fortress serves as a museum about the evolution of European fortification and the Siege of Ostend.

From Westende with the bike ferry coming great destination. It is worth the facility to look from the inside.

Super destination for those interested. The fort (audio guide) gives a deep insight into life within a Napoleonic fortress.

The fort also has good gastronomy.

Behind Fort Napoleon, the bicycle road nearby the sea starts ( beware for the pedestrian who share the same space).
