The Köthener Hütte was built in 1897 as a white-painted wooden hut by hikers of the Harzklub branch association Köthen. Its small bell tower makes it look like a small church, so it is also called a chapel; It also got this nickname in memory of the dilapidated wooden hut that had previously stood in its own place.
