Santo Spirito in Sassia is a church in Rome, near St. Peter's Basilica. It was originally founded in the 8th century for Saxon (English) pilgrims, hence the name "in Sassia." The current Baroque church was rebuilt in the 16th century, with a magnificent façade by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger. It is connected to the Ospedale di Santo Spirito, one of the oldest hospitals in Europe. The church is dedicated to the Holy Spirit and is known for its role in charity work and Divine Mercy devotion.
