Since 1936, the illuminated billboard for the famous dry sherry wine Tio Pepe has stood on the roof of the prestigious “Paris Hotel”.

But there came a time when the square was so full of advertising posters and advertisements that these were eventually banned by the municipal council with the intention that people could enjoy the real appearance of the square and its facades. But even though all the posters disappeared, Tío Pepe's advertisement was granted a municipal pardon and managed to maintain its position.

However, in 2006, the hotel closed its doors for good and the new owner announced that the billboard would not return to its original location. In 2014, the old sign returned to a new location: on the roof of the building on the corner of Preciados Street.
