Bad Hersfeld has numerous half-timbered buildings to offer. On the southeast side, two particularly impressive half-timbered buildings with towering Renaissance gables from the 16th century can be seen in the houses at Markt 6 and 7. Next to it is the Burgmannenhaus: in contrast to the half-timbered building, this is a massive stone building in which medieval structures have been preserved.

The Renaissance gabled houses bear witness to a later golden age of construction and are a characteristic feature of Bad Hersfeld's market square. The market square is defined by the combination of these Renaissance gabled houses and the half-timbered houses. The town hall was originally built in the Gothic style and expanded in the Renaissance style between 1607 and 1612.
