The Wetsingersluis functioned as a lock from 1877 to 1931. In 1929 the digging of the Van Starkenborgh Canal was started and the construction of the lock in Dorkwerd, which was ready in 1931 to take over the function of the Wetsingersluis. The lock gates of Wetsingersluis were transferred to the Dorkwerdersluis. After that time, the Wetsingersluis became a sluice that could be closed with flood beams in the event of a breach at Zoutkamp.
These flood beams were present until 1973 but have never been used.A beautiful iron unequal-armed swing bridge has been placed over the lock. On either side of this bridge are cast columns bearing the year 1875. Cast iron rosettes are mounted on the railings. You can find more info here: tinyurl.com/janwandelt004

Beautiful place with a view of the lock and bridges. Pleasure and inland navigation.

The Wetsingersluis is a disused lock near Wetsingerzijl in the Dutch province of Groningen. The northern head is still present and there is a foot/bicycle bridge over it. Wikipedia
