The Mound of Ezinge is an archaeological national monument and included in the Canon of the Netherlands:
The Mound Ezinge was excavated close to the center between 1930 and 1934 by the Biological-Archaeological Institute (BAI) of the University of Groningen under the direction of the archaeologist professor A.E. van Giffen. The excavation provided a lot of information about the successive habitation phases. The mound had been continuously inhabited since the late Iron Age. Here were self-sufficient farms with large, healthy herds and contacts with the distant outside world. The results of the excavation of the Ezinge mound turned the archaeological world upside down. National and international interest was great.
